Am I Ok?

Yes, this is okay. But it's just okay. It's a tender story of a female friendship between Lucy (Dakota Johnson) and Jane (Sonoya Mizuno). Since high school (or so it seems), the two friends are practically inseparable. And when Lucy has a sexual revelation or sorts that she's attracted to women, Jane encourages her to explore this potential late-blooming coming-out. In this feature-length directorial debut from real-life married couple Tig Notaro and Stephanie Allynne, the relationship is depicted with immense care. There are not a ton of laughs for a "comedy." The humor in certain scenes feels completely forced (namely, the Sean Hayes bits and the Tig Notaro scene). Thankfully, the misguided comedic diversions never stray too far from the film's heart, which is the two leads' platonic connection. We need more Sonoya Mizuno in everything, though.
