Animalia

A supernatural occurrence in Morocco separates Itto from her husband, and she tries desperately to get back to him. Pregnant, alone, and scared, the phenomenon that's happening has her questioning her faith. What does this mean for her existence? Faith and religion are common themes in "alien invasion" films and shows, but it's refreshing to see a film like this that has a non-christian centered, Islamic perspective. The genre is ripe for more stories like this. While I don't think this film concludes satisfactorily, I appreciated Itto's journey. The film features several beautifully framed shots and notable cinematography. Oumaïma Barid's performance similarly elevates "Animalia" enough to garner a recommendation.
