Sundance 2023

Ok, this is a super weird movie. It stars Scott Bakula, Stephen Dorff, and Bella Thorne, but I'm not sure I could explain it if I tried. Directed by Eddie Alcazar and produced by none other than Stephen Soderberg, it is filmed in black and white 16mm and has a sexy, psychedelic, retro-futuristic aesthetic. Despite the stylish presentation, I was pretty bored for the first two-thirds, partly because I couldn't fully understand what was happening. However, it has a rather unforgettable finish culminating in an epic claymation confrontation that is both unique and thrilling. This finale makes "Divinity"  at least worth checking out, even as a curiosity. It really is bizarre, though.
