Dual

A satirical black comedy that finds Karen Gillan at odds with her own clone and facing a potential duel to the death. Like much of Yorgos Lanthimos's work, Riley Stearns employs a deadpan style of dialogue delivery here. It took me a bit to adjust to the humor, as I haven't seen any of Stearns's other films. Once I got my bearings, I had a good amount of laughter and enjoyment. I appreciate seeing Karen Gillan and Aaron Paul working on some indie projects. On the whole, I found “Dual” to be mediocre, though. It has a somewhat interesting premise but never feels wholly original in its exploration of those ideas. Seeing Gillan and Paul dancing to “Get Low” is admittedly fantastic.
