Sundance 2022

A coming of age drama that follows three teenage girls in Finland transitioning into adulthood. Two girls explore a burgeoning romance together while the third embarks on a quest of self-discovery to find the keys to her own sexual pleasures. While that synopsis may sound rather prurient, the story is portrayed with honesty and sweetness and maintains a decidedly sex-positive outlook. Girl Picture has a hangout film vibe similar to “Booksmart,” with its excellent soundtrack and use of vulgar humor. Written by Ilona Ahti and Daniela Hakulinen and directed by Alli Haapasalo, “Girl Picture” is a refreshing take on a coming-of-age drama.
