“You Won't Be Alone” is a fantastic folk horror/witch story. At first, I was concerned that it might be one of those movies that take a while to become engaging, but luckily, the witch is introduced very early on. Starring Sara Klimoska, Anamaria Marinca, Alice Englert and Noomi Rapace. The movie, directed and written by Goran Stolevski, tells the story of a mute peasant girl living in 19th-century Macedonia. She was cursed by a witch at birth and transformed into a shapeshifting demon on her 16th birthday. But, with the ability to transform into her victims, she uses her powers to understand love, loss, and humanity. It presents a unique perspective on witchcraft and touches on themes of sex, gender, marriage, and parenthood in a natural way. Overall, it's one of the top films from Sundance this year.
